The Destiny Ice Breaker: A Review of This Exotic Sniper Rifle

You can get the Ice Breaker from loot chests inside of the Vault of Glass, as a random completion reward, inside of exotic and legendary engrams, and you can pick it up from Xur for 17 Strange Coins if you have them to burn. If you decide to try and get this sniper rifle that’s where you should start looking. One reason people like this so much is actually similar to the appeal of the Invective shotgun. It can regenerate its own ammo. This gun does Solar damage.

As I mentioned above, this will regenerate its own ammo, but it does so differently than Invective does. It regenerates inside the magazine itself, which holds 6 shots. It can regenerate 1 of those every six seconds or so. If you get your precision shots in they’ll pack a whollop thanks to the high Impact of this gun. Works very well for PvE and PvP. A nice bonus is that it can also regenerate your other special weapon ammo, too. Basically if you run out of that ammo just switch over to this and wait for a little bit, then switch back over and you’re good to go. Works pretty well.

The Ice Breaker Downsides

The upgrades for this gun aren’t too spectacular in my opinion. The Recoil here is a bit over the top, as well. The low stability and lower rate of fire make it more handy in PvE than PvP. Its not great for your closer up enemies since it has a pretty heavy magnification set on it. Makes sense since its a sniper rifle, of course, but this makes it less useful when doing PvP.

Summary

Being able to recharge your ammo is pretty invaluable. This is even more true during your longer, more drawn-out firefights (such as raids, for example). Seriously, Ice Breaker is by far one of the best sniper rifles you can pick up for PvE, which is why so many people have been grabbing this. The biggest, real drawback is going to be the gun’s recoil, but not much else is really that big of a deal. If you do a lot of high end raiding inside of Destiny then do yourself a favor and pick this exotic weapon up. You’ll be glad you did.
